Here he/it is: Mark Zuckerberg has been named Time's Person of the Year, beating out runners-up The Tea Party, Hamid Karzai, Julian Assange, and the Chilean miners.
Time editor Richard Stengel announced the crowning on the Today Show this morning:
With much less fanfare, KQED's Mina Kim today interviewed Kara Swisher of All Things Digital about the award, Facebook, and Zuckerberg's personality.
Interestingly enough, Swisher, who says she has known Zuckerberg for many years and was interviewed on the recent "60 Minutes" profile about him, says the character portrayed in the movie The Social Network, "wasn't like the Mark I know...
"(They) portrayed him as glum and dour, and he's a lovely guy, and very friendly. Not a malevolent personality, although he's definitely sharp as a tack and has done some things that are questionable, especially early in Facebook's founding. They also portrayed him as somebody who talked a lot (but) you can't get him to say three words together that are cogent much of the time."
