Golden Gate Transit leased a new ferry and, yes, it has fired torpedoes.
When I first saw the ferry with "Rhode Island Fast Ferry" painted on the side, I knew there must be a story.
It's no small feat getting a ferry that can carry over 400 passengers from one side of the United States to the other.
Golden Gate Transit needed a boat that could fill in while other boats were out for maintenance.
But the ferry's trip to San Francisco Bay was only a small part of the story.
There are still bolts on the top deck where the ferry, fitted with an "Advanced Surface Launcher," fired the torpedo into Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island.
I don't think Golden Gate Transit is planning on deploying torpedoes on the Millennium when it starts carrying passengers but the ferry boat's past sure makes for some interesting reading.
