Elephant seals took over Drakes Beach in Point Reyes National Seashore during the government shutdown.

When the usual contingent of Homo sapiens were scarce during the shutdown, scores of elephant seal pups and their parents — who can weigh in around 5,000 pounds — began to congregate on the beach, eventually knocking down a fence and moving into the parking lot.

As of now, the National Park Service has closed the beach in order to give the seals plenty of room.

The elephant seals have not taken a position on funding President Trump's border wall.
