PG&E says it doesn't have the ability to pay fire victims due to "liquidity problems."

Survivors of the 2015 Butte Fire — which burned over 70,000 acres and destroyed around 500 homes — were informed that the negotiated settlements with the company would not be paid at this time.

In recent days the utility company awarded Jesus Soto, a senior vice president in charge of PG&E gas operations, a $75,000 raise on top of his $500,000 annual salary.

The raise comes weeks after state utility regulators announced they're starting an investigation into whether PG&E falsified "Call Before You Dig" records.
