Thousands of students joined the #NationalSchoolWalkout on Wednesday to protest gun violence.

Organizers urged students to leave class for 17 minutes -- one minute for each victim of the Parkland, Florida shooting.

High school students and others nationwide have mobilized to challenge current gun laws following the recent mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The "March for Our Lives" rally scheduled for March 24 in Washington, D.C. is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of participants.
