The intersection of Turk and Larkin in the Tenderloin is relatively unremarkable. An old federal building stands on one corner, and a tire shop on another. But locals know this intersection because of the big, 6-foot sign on display in the tire shop’s parking lot.

You might expect a sign in front of a tire shop to advertise deals on tires ... or even something car-related. But this sign is unique. Every 4-6 weeks, a new quote, truism or saying appears on the sign. It's a little dose of philosophy, along your morning commute. How did the sign get its start?
