Rodney Owen McCarthy, a 15-year-old British protester, speaks to a crowd about student protests he witnessed in the U.K. in a video that's been viewed more than 375,000 times at last count.

One sign of YouTube's success as a tool for activists is McCarthy's final message, one that hasn't been reported in the media. Although the battle over tuition isn't over, the student activists have achieved one of their goals, he says: coming of age as a generation of socially aware citizens.
