Local Learning: Professional Development with KQED

Designed for schools, districts, professional learning communities, or other groups of educators, these experiences can take on a number of different forms depending on the needs of the group. PBS LearningMedia California (PBSLM) is our digital library of over 100,000 Common Core-aligned videos, interactive games and lessons for all academic subject areas and grade levels – and it’s full of amazing, trusted content from KQED, PBS and other partner stations. In addition to the incredible content, PBSLM includes the ability to create media rich, interactive lesson plans, custom quizzes, storyboards, curated playlists, and many other curriculum resources designed for teachers.

KQED Science e-books are media rich, interactive texts that address a variety of topics including climate change, energy, biotechnology and earthquakes. Our newest series of e-books titled “Engineering Is…” is designed to introduce engineering to middle- and high-school students by showing engineering solutions that address real-world challenges and help people and animals around the world.

KQED Art School is a video series for people who want to learn about art. See interviews with contemporary artists working in performing, visual and media art, as well as how-to videos that demonstrate new ways to get creative and explain art-making techniques and concepts. With their focus on diverse artists and art forms, Art School videos can help any teacher begin to integrate the Arts across the curriculum.

The Lowdown is KQED’s blog focused on helping students and teachers connect the news to classroom learning. With video, comics, interactives, infographics and easy to understand analysis, The Lowdown helps everyone understand the big news from California and beyond. With an objective voice that understands students, The Lowdown helps teachers in a variety of subject areas tackle and address the difficult the issues of our day.
