In celebration of Art IS Education this month here is a list of arts resources from PBS LearningMedia. Use these resources to engage students in arts explorations throughout the month of March.  Also check out the KQED art contest and consider participating.

KQED Art School Contest
Create a portrait of your favorite person or historical figure. Be sure to include your hometown and state and a one sentence description of the person you are paying tribute to in your cartoon portrait! Entries should be inspired in some way by Sirron Norris’s KQED video demonstrations of drawing cartoon faces that convey emotion and consider perspective. The winning artwork, selected by Sirron Norris himself, and the winner will be featured in an article on KQED.org and receive a signed artwork from the artist! Deadline: All entries must be received by Monday, March 31, 2014, at 11:59pm. Contest Guidelines

Art School
Art School is a video series that introduces contemporary artists who discuss their careers and intentions, then demonstrate hands-on techniques or concepts.

Makers
This collection of video segments and lesson plans focuses on “making” in science, technology, and the arts. Teachers can use these resources to encourage do-it-yourself and hands-on exploration in their classrooms.
