A now deceased GOP redistricting strategist was behind the Trump Administration’s decision to add a citizenship question on the 2020 census, according to a motion filed by the ACLU Thursday. The filing, based on documents obtained from the hard drive of Thomas Hofeller, argues that federal officials illegally added the citizenship question to create a structural electoral advantage for “Republicans and Non-Hispanic Whites.” The Supreme Court is set to rule on the legality of the citizenship question next month. We’ll talk about the potential impact of the newly released evidence on the case.
