Illustrator Paul Madonna spent more than a decade inking San Francisco’s Victorian homes and trademark skyline for the San Francisco Chronicle’s “All Over Coffee” column. But then Paul and his wife were evicted from their Mission district home – and Paul decided to document the effects of gentrification. His new book “On to the Next Dream” is a collection of drawings and mini essays, filled with stories of how the housing crisis has impacted San Francisco: from a woman who pretends to be pregnant to increase her odds in the housing market, to a teenager who rents out a tent. Madonna joins us to talk about his creative process and how he discovered a deep sense of ownership for San Francisco in both long-time locals and newer transplants.
