Widely regarded to be among the greatest film critics, David Thomson has written over two dozen books on movies.  But in his latest book, “Television: A Biography,” the cinephile surveys the six-decade evolution of television, examining specific episodes, programs and advertisements that highlight the medium’s shifting influence on our perception of reality. We talk with Thompson about television’s early role as a family unifier, the effects of ever smaller and more portable screens, and why he thinks, when it comes to TV, “we are not in charge.”
