Julian Guthrie

In the late 1990s, entrepreneur and Star Trek fan Peter Diamandis was on a mission to revive space exploration…by privatizing it. As Julian Guthrie details in her new book, “How to Make a Spaceship,” Diamindis offered a $10 million reward for the first privately built craft that could take a person into space, land safely and repeat the feat. We speak with Guthrie about the book, which traces the origins of private space flight and the eccentric characters who pursued Diamandis’ Ansari X prize.

Guests:

Julian Guthrie, author, "How to Make a Spaceship: A Band of Renegades, an Epic Race, and the Birth of Private Spaceflight," former staff writer at the San Francisco Chronicle.
