San Francisco’s Proposition Q would ban tent encampments and authorize city officials to remove them after giving 24-hour notice. If passed, the law would require the city to offer a shelter bed or other form of housing to those displaced. We’ll talk to the sponsor of the measure, Supervisor Mark Farrell, who says the camps are “a hotbed of disease, substance abuse, violence, and sexual assault.” We’ll also hear from Jennifer Friedenbach, Executive Director of the Coalition on Homelessness, who argues that the proposition is impractical and will only exacerbate the homeless crisis.
