“We don’t have to make children learn, we just have to let them learn,” wrote Alison Gopnik in a recent New York Times op-ed. Her new book, “The Gardner and the Carpenter,” makes the case that
middle class parents act too much like carpenters trying to build successful adults and not enough like gardeners, allowing children the time and space to flourish of their own accord. We’ll check in with the UC Berkeley psychology professor about what the latest science says about how children learn.

Guests:

Alison Gopnik, author, "The Gardener and the Carpenter: What the New Science of Child Development Tells Us About the Relationship Between Parents and Children"; professor of psychology, affiliate professor of philosophy at University of California, Berkeley
