One third of all girls with school-related arrests are African-American, even though black girls make up just 16% of female students in the U.S. Oakland-based writer and president of the National Black Women’s Justice Institute, Monique Morris, says black girls are often misunderstood and mistreated by the authority figures who should be helping them. Forum talks with  Morris about her new book, “Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools.”
