Filmed in the Bay Area, “East Side Sushi” is about a young Latina mother who encounters gender and cultural barriers as she tries to become a restaurant sushi chef. It’s the debut feature film for Oakland-raised Anthony Lucero, who joins us to talk about independent filmmaking, his transition from editing visual effects to directing and what really makes ethnic food “authentic.”
