A group called Parents and Pros for Safer Soccer wants to disallow headers in youth soccer until age 14. They’re concerned about the long-term effects of repeated hammering of the brain from the force of a ball. We’ll discuss what we know about soccer headers and kids and whether there’s enough scientific evidence that they pose a serious neurological threat.

Guests:

Brandi Chastain, professional soccer player for the California Storm and part of the Parents and Pros for Safer Soccer Campaign

Robert Cantu, clinical professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Boston University School of Medicine and co-founder of the Sports Legacy Institute which wants to ban headers in youth soccer

Mitul Kapadia, medical director of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco
