Infusing blood from young mice into older ones reversed signs of aging according to three studies published on Sunday. The injected mice showed improved memory, muscle tone and endurance, among other effects. The findings have potential implications for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients, and plans are already in the works to start clinical trials on humans. We’ll discuss the findings of the studies, which were conducted by researchers at UCSF, Stanford and Harvard.

    This finding makes logical sense, since it is in the blood that a lot of the key enzymes are found that are needed for maintaining good health, and the concentration of these enzymes decreases with age.

    Can young blood be preserved? In other words, could we have blood taken as young people to use by ourselves as we age?

    Good way to fund our schools. Bleed our kids and youth literally, instead of just figuratively. Let the old pay enough for their blood and rejuvenation to let kids go to adequate schools and college without horrible loans. Make it more expensive for the rich, and maybe there will be more equality in society.

    Talk about possibilities of ageism! People were afraid of genetic testing in case the existence of hidden disease be discovered that might disqualify them for health insurance before Obamacare. Now employers will look at a candidate and assume they will be less desirable – unless they are infused with young blood. When the responsible biotic is isolated, imagine adding this to your morning coffee like a creamer to really get your day started.

    If an older person is a regular blood donor, does that stimulate the production of new “old” cells or are newly generated cells “younger”. ?

      Check the links in the intro; it seems to go two ways – old blood creates something that inhibits while young blood enriches.

          That study was actually on the neurologic affects of metabolic dysfunction brought on by high levels of fructose which were then ameliorated by the presence of dietary n-3 fatty acid.

    In general, aging is a process of physical decline, no matter how much surgery, botox & collagen injections. Our western culture needs to shift from the idolation of the external illusion of youth to an appreciation of the internal development of intellect and wisdom. If we are lucky, we will spend more time of our lives in old age than young so exercise your hippocampus guys.

    by the youth. Adults will get “replacement” blood from the youth stock
    when they donate blood for regular medical needs…

    GDF11 is upstream from ALK4 and ALK5 known to influence myocyte and myotube formation from myoblasts and to influence muscle hypertrophy around the heart. There are drugs that do this.
