San Francisco Considers Banning Bottled Water Sales on Public Property

San Francisco may become the first major city in the United States to ban the sale of water in plastic bottles. A proposal introduced this week by San Francisco Supervisor David Chiu would prohibit the sale of plastic-bottled water on city property, including at parks, concerts, large public events and mobile food trucks, in order to reduce plastic waste. While venues would be required to make tap water available, opponents like the International Bottled Water Association say people would turn to more sugary options like soda.
