The Food and Drug Administration has ordered Silicon Valley gene-testing service 23andMe to halt all sales and marketing of its gene testing kits. 23andMe led the way in the personal-genomics revolution after it was declared Time Magazine’s 2008 invention of the year, but regulators have concerns that inaccurate results from the direct-to-consumer tests, or results that are not adequately understood by patients, could lead to dangerous decisions.
