The East Bay Express calls it the “bacon-wrapped economy” — once diverse, affordable neighborhoods transforming into hotbeds of techie hipsterism. The debate over gentrification is a perennial one, but it has reached a fever pitch in recent months. Still, the loaded “G-word” means different things to different people, and encompasses thorny issues of race, class, development and displacement.
