In his first novel, Bay Area-based author Michael David Lukas travels back to the 19th-century Ottoman Empire where a young girl becomes the adviser to the sultan and changes the course of history. Lukas joins Michael Krasny in the studio.

    I am so glad you are teaching 3 rd and 4th graders. My fourth grade teacher taught us poetry, and it has had a lifelong impact. When I returned decades later to visit my niece in her class, Robin Towes (pron. “Taves”) presented me with a lamined copy of one of my poems that she had kept all those years.
