Oil companies in California have mistakenly been allowed to inject wastewater into some of the state’s drinking water aquifers. A KQED investigation has found that state officials know little about the impact of the wastewater on California’s groundwater reserves. Forum talks with KQED reporter Lauren Sommer about the mistakes regulators made and what we know — and don’t know — about groundwater contamination from oil production.
