Louise Erdrich returns to the fictional town of Pluto in her latest novel, “LaRose,” rounding out the trilogy she
began with “The Plague of Doves” and “The Rounding House.” The recent book begins after a man accidentally
kills his best friend’s five-year-old son while hunting. In a desperate act of atonement, the hunter offers his own
son, LaRose, to the grieving family. We talk with Erdrich about her newest work and the characters and themes
she revisits.
