Iraq’s parliamentary elections on Sunday were widely viewed as a success, with turnout estimated at about 60 percent. We discuss the preliminary results, and the election-related violence which left 38 dead. We’ll also talk to a local Iraqi immigrant who was one of the thousands to vote in Pleasanton over the weekend.

Guests:

Phyllis Bennis, fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies and author of "Ending the Iraq War: A Primer"

Haitham Jasim, local Iraqi immigrant and former translator for the U.S. Marines who voted in the Iraqi election over the weekend

Thomas Henriksen, senior fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University and author of "American Power after the Berlin Wall"

Michael Corbin, deputy assistant secretary of state in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs for Iraq Issues at the U.S. State Department

Anthony Shadid, Baghdad-based reporter for The New York Times
