Yesterday marked the opening of the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival, running through March 22nd. The festival is the largest showcase for new Asian-American and Asian films, and serves as an important launching pad for new talent. But how relevant are such festivals in an age when films from around the world are easily available as DVDs or downloads?
