Convinced that the Apocalypse was imminent, Veronica Chater’s conservative Catholic parents moved the family from California to the holy city of Fatima, Portugal in 1972 in the hopes of finding a more traditional religious community. We talk with the Berkeley-based author about her new memoir chronicling the ill-fated journey and how it impacted her family and faith.
