If a panel convened by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has its way, California consumers will soon know a lot more about the health effects of chemicals used in everyday products. The idea behind a sweeping ‘green’ initiative is to reduce the total chemical load in the environment, from production to disposal. We talk with members of the panel about their goals.

Guests:

Meg Schwarzman, research scientist at the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health at UC Berkeley, family physician and co-author of the 2008 report to Cal EPA on green chemistry

Michael Feuer, state assemblymember representing California's 42nd District

Maureen Gorsen, director of the California Department of Toxic Substances Control

Bill Magavern, director of the Sierra Club of California

John Ulrich, executive director and senior consultant for the Chemical Industry Council of California
