Michael Smigiel

Tom is directed by Michael Smigiel.

Michael D. Smigiel Jr. is a graduate student at the Maryland Institute College of Art for filmmaking. He has been working freelance as a cinematographer and director since high school. In 2014 Michael began his career in news at WBOC where he worked as a cameraman on the ground and in the helicopter. In 2015 Michael moved to Baltimore and began working freelance at WBAL-TV and is still currently employed there. His first year at MICA he wrote, directed, and shot a short film titled Tom where he met Nick Daly. Then while working with fellow graduate student Maceo Tendaji making music videos, Michael met Kevin Grant (aka WishGRANTed). Both him and Nick becoming main characters in Michael’s thesis film, I’m Alive & Doing Well. On top of all this, Michael is also working on a 1920’s period piece, an LGBT pro-children’s puppet show, a musical, and many other projects.
