In Salt, young Eirikur and his mother move from the city to a small Icelandic fishing village full of mystery and lore. Lonely in his desolate new surroundings, Eirikur befriends a local girl by the water’s edge. But their new friendship quickly takes an unexpected turn in this haunting short film.

Salt is directed by Ugla Hauksdóttir, a native of Iceland, was granted a full-tuition scholarship in 2007 to attend the prestigious fine arts program at The Cooper Union in New York City. After discovering her passion for film directing, Ugla graduated in 2016 with honors from the MFA film program at Columbia University where she was awarded the David Jones Memorial Award as the “most promising director” of her class. At the 2016 Columbia University film festival at Lincoln Center, her thesis film How Far She Went was awarded Faculty Honors, the Students Selects Award and the IFP Audience Award. In 2016, Ugla was also honored with the Director’s Guild of America Student Film Award for “Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Women’s Category.” Ugla is a recipient of the American-Scandinavian Foundation Thor Thors Memorial Fund and of Hladvarpinn, a cultural grant for Icelandic women. Her first feature-length script Aria was a finalist in the 2016 Nordisk Film & TV Fond pitch competition “Nordic Talent”. Ugla’s short films have screened at major film festivals worldwide including Slamdance Film Festival, Palm Springs International ShortFest, Chicago International Film Festival, Nordisk Panorama, Vimeo StaffPick and more.

Ugla works professionally as a director and writer for film and television.
