Kate Marks

Kate Marks is a graduate of Brown University, where she received honors in playwriting, and is finishing her thesis film Miracle Maker as part of her MFA degree in film directing at CalArts. Other writing projects include Amock, a feature film about the misadventures of three women marked as witches and I Heart Robot, a web series about a lovable robot on a quest to find the American Dream. Kate is the recipient of the Sarah Jacobson Film Grant, the Beutner Family Award for Excellence in the Arts and the Celtx Seed Award.

Her film Pearl Was Here premiered at Slamdance January 2013. Her film Homebody won A Juror’s Choice Award from the Black Maria Film + Video Festival and screened at film festivals in New Orleans, Newport Beach, New York, Los Angeles and was an opening night film for The Rio De Janeiro International Short Film Festival.

Additionally, Kate has worked as a teacher, performer, clown, dancer, playwright and theater director in New York City. The New York Times called her “A superb director” and “ingenious.”
