This June marks the 19th annual Allied Media Conference. Every year, the conference brings together filmmakers, radio producers, youth organizers, writers, and a whole host of other talent who use media as a way of inciting change. AMC seeks to acknowledge those who use different types of media such as art or technology to address the roots of systemic problems and deliver holistic solutions towards a more just and creative world. The conference takes place June 15th through the 18th in Detroit, Michigan. KQED will be presenting a session with our Youth Advisory Board.

Pathways for Youth Voice in Public Media

This year KQED Learning invited students from across the Bay Area to join KQED’s first Youth Advisory Board. Through sharing feedback, they helped KQED build tools to strengthen youth civic participation and digital literacy. Our session will explore the work of the YAB in its effort to center younger, more diverse voices. We will hear from members and staff of KQED’s inaugural board about lessons learned from the launch of KQED Learning’s first youth-facing YouTube series, Above the Noise. Participants will walk away with strategies for infusing and amplifying youth voice into the work of adult-led, legacy media organizations.
