52 educators have been selected to represent almost all of the states and Washington D.C. for the PBS LearningMedia Lead Digital Innovators programs. Berkeley Technology Academy’s Margaret Agbowo was picked to represent California in the PBS Learning Media Digital Innovators program.   Margaret joins other teachers from around the nation that are recognized for being tech-savvy K-12 educators and for incorporating digital media in their classrooms.

“KQED is proud to recognize Margaret Agbowo, who was chosen as a Lead Digital Innovator from a pool of talented and innovative educators from across the country that are using technology and digital media in the classroom,” said Robin Mencher, KQED Executive Director, Education. “She will represent KQED and the entire Bay Area as she continues to enhance her skills with these one-of-a-kind resources, tools and trainings from PBS LearningMedia.”

Margaret Agbowo has been a utilizing KQED’s professional learning groups and workshops for several years, while incorporating KQED’s videos, like Art School, in her classroom.   “Art School became essential in my classroom as a way to introduce careers in visual arts,” she explained. “Art School lets students know that alternatives to ‘regular jobs’ exist. Also, the Elements of Art series is now a feature of my Computer Arts curriculum and is applied to students’ digital arts studies.”

All 2016 PBS LearningMedia Lead Digital Innovators will receive an all-expense paid trip to Denver, Colorado in order to participate in the 2016 PBS LearningMedia Digital Summit and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) conference. In addition, they will receive year-long professional development opportunities that include, but are not limited to, virtual trainings, access to premium and exclusive resources from PBS LearningMedia Custom Service, network opportunities, and a free PBS TeacherLine professional development course.
