An all-star group of musicians under the direction of Marc Capelle pays tribute to the soundtrack to 'The Royal Tenenbaums' on Jan. 18.

The 17th annual SF Sketchfest kicks off on Jan. 11, with an overload of comedic talent. Where to begin?

Possibly with the clutch of tributes to big names like Ricky Gervais, Jane Lynch, Bill Burr, Kevin Pollak, Lewis Black — and one of my personal favorites, Maria Bamford.

This lineup includes more than 200 shows over 17 days — and even though tickets have been on sale since mid-November, there’s still a chance you can get into something interesting: sketch comedy, improv, stand-up, and live performances of soundtracks, including tributes to The Royal Tenenbaums and Rushmore.

Because Audible is presenting this year’s fest, you can count on live podcasts and “storytelling” events, including Hot Mic with Dan Savage. (That’s the one I’d take my mom to see, but you know your family best.)

On Jan. 21, expert advice columnist Dan Savage talks about sex and relationships with guests, dishing about parenthood, sex work and more.

And if TV is your thing? Go see a panel discussion with alumni from cult favorites like Twin Peaks and Futurama.
