The Jan. 21 Women’s March, Girls Trip, Weinstein, #MeToo, “Cat Person,” Lady Bird — here’s hoping the curve toward women’s perspectives continues in 2018, and that it might be able to be as fun and celebratory as Dua Lipa’s “New Rules”:
One, don’t pick up the phone / You know he’s only calling ’cause he’s drunk and alone
Two, don’t let him in / You’ll have to kick him out again
Three, don’t be his friend / You know you’re gonna wake up in his bed in the morning
And if you’re under him, You ain’t getting over him
It’s always a little exciting to see a pop star on the precipice, like Lady Gaga in 2008 or Amy Winehouse in 2005. It’s still too early to tell if Dua Lipa is headed for those heights, but judging from the year she’s had and her undeniable talent and charisma, this is going to be one of those shows everyone has their eye on.
