Kitka does its annual 'Wintersongs' tour around the Bay Area (Photo: Tomas Pacha/Kitka )

Kitka, the all-women group specializing in Eastern European choral music, always seems to be tapping some deep spiritual experience as they sing, which is just right for the holidays. They do Eastern Orthodox church songs, music from Bosnia, even some Sephardic and Yiddish songs, often in a minor key that sends shivers up my spine. As my co-host Eli Wirtschafter notes, they dress in traditional outfits, like they’re a group of high priestesses, or just natty peasants. Their Wintersongs tour is an annual holiday tradition these days that the Do List heartily endorses. They’re playing in just about every part of the Bay Area: Santa Cruz, San Rafael, Menlo Park, San Francisco, Oakland and Woodside. Details here.
