Music Director Joana Carneiro Returns to the Berkeley Symphony

Music Director Joana Carneiro didn’t conduct the Berkeley Symphony during last year’s season — she was pregnant with triplets, at her home in Portugal. But on Oct. 5 at Zellerbach Hall, she marks her return with a typically ambitious program, including a world premiere cello concerto by the young Australian composer William Gardiner, featuring Berkeley born cellist Tessa Seymour. Gardiner was mentored by Berkeley composer John Adams, so it’s a nice touch that the program also features Adams’ 1988 work Fearful Symmetries. So Berkeley, and so good. Details here.
