Jimmy Pardo.

The North Beach haunt Doc’s Lab used to be the legendary comedy club the Purple Onion, and it’s hard to mention the place without thinking of the great Purple Onion regulars who’ve left us in the last couple months — Dick Gregory and Shelly Berman.

If anyone can carry on that stage’s legacy, it’s the comedian Jimmy Pardo, who’s doing a bit of crowdwork at this standup gig. You might recognize Pardo from his association with Conan O’Brien, but he also hosts the long-running podcast, Never Not Funny, and he’s super-quick witted — playing off the crowd is something he’s got an amazing talent for. Think of him as modern-day Don Rickles: zingers with heart. Pardo does two shows at Doc’s Lab in North Beach on Sept. 30; details here.
