Bedouine is the stage name of Azniv Korkejian, an Armenian born in Syria who’s settled now in Los Angeles, and she’s one of the few singer-songwriters working today who really sounds like a folk musician, with a voice right to the soul. My Do List co-host this week, Eli Wirtschafter, says it’s been a while since he’s fallen in love with a musician like he has with Bedouine, and he loves the lush arrangements on her debut CD. Fascinating side note: she did the music editing on Kumail Najiani’s The Big Sick, the sleeper comedy hit of this past summer. She’s at Harlow’s in Sacramento Sept. 21, Sweetwater in Mill Valley Sept. 24, and Freight and Salvage in Berkeley Sept. 26. Details here.
