Sept. 21–Oct. 22: Blasted, by the late Sarah Kane, is apparently not for the squeamish — it comes with a content advisory, warning of “graphic language, sexual violence, and disturbing imagery.” And maybe that’s appropriate for the way it mixes what appears at first to be a two-hander about an abusive relationship with a war story that gets progressively uglier as the show goes on. The Shotgun Players, under Artistic Director Patrick Dooley, often take big chances on difficult plays with heart-stopping results. Later this fall, they’re also reviving The Black Rider: The Casting of the Magic Bullets, the brilliant and weird collaboration by Robert Wilson, Tom Waits and William S. Burroughs. Details for Blasted are here.
