Download: Mixtape: New Music from Longtime Bay Area Artists (Podcast #413)

Between streaming services and social media, it’s easier than ever to find and consume an endless supply of new bands. But all of that access can also make it more challenging to keep up with previous favorites. There are plenty of good reasons to get excited about young bands, debut albums, and the prospect of discovering emerging artists, but there’s also something uniquely rewarding to watching a great musician’s career evolve over time.

This mixtape collects new and recent music from 12 amazing longtime Bay Area artists. Each performer featured in this mix has been active in local music for at least a decade, which, in the affordability-challenged Bay Area, is an accomplishment in itself. Even more impressively, though, each of the acts showcased in this collection continue to put out great new music worth discovering. Among the many highlights in the tape are Lil B, whose self-produced Black Ken mixtape is a career highlight, Paula Frazer and Tarnation, returning with Frazer’s first album in a decade, and Religious Girls, whose return finds the trio as dynamic and unpredictable as ever.

Listen to the mixtape to learn more about all 12 artists.
