Phono del Sol, the annual summer festival presented by local music blog The Bay Bridged and recording studio Tiny Telephone, announced its lineup today for the 2017 fest, which takes place Saturday, June 17, in San Francisco’s Potrero del Sol Park. See the full lineup below.
Psych-rock titans Thee Oh Sees (who came up in San Francisco, though they now call Los Angeles home) and punk rock four-piece The Coathangers, out of Atlanta, are the biggest names on this bill. But the local artists rounding out this poster are also (moreso?) worth getting excited about — in particular, a trio of East Bay women. Jay Som, Oakland’s buzziest indie-pop act right now, should receive a warm welcome at this homecoming show following her current national tour for new album Everybody Works. Rayana Jay, from Richmond, is one of the fastest-rising local R&B acts in town thanks to her 2016 EP Sorry About Last Night. And Madeline Kenney, who sings sweet, twangy shoegaze, is an up-and-coming Oaklander by way of Seattle. Folk-soul singer Sean Hayes, R&B act Bells Atlas, boundary-pushing rapper DUCKWRTH, punks Never Young, and weirdo doo-wop singer Tino Drima all also hail from the Bay.
