We present a ton of new and emerging Bay Area bands on these mixtapes every month, but have far fewer opportunities to revisit artists after they move away from the region.
In this mixtape, we catch up with 11 acts with Bay Area roots, including Harriet Brown, who grew up in the Bay Area before heading to L.A., where he’s now poised to have a breakout year. Others, including Cotillon, spent fewer but no less impactful years in the local music scene; for Jordan Corso, his time in the Bay Area found him working with JR White to create Cotillon’s buzzed-about first album.
Still other artists included in this mix released a substantial number of records during their long stints in the Bay Area, like the prolific garage rock hero Ty Segall and the versatile Jefre Cantu-Ledesma. As this mixtape shows, the Bay Area’s influence is undeniable — artists nurtured by the scene here create compelling works wherever they land next.
