Are you in a band? Do you wake up every morning determined to make it big against all odds? Have you always wanted to play live music immediately preceding a Bon Jovi performance at a stadium in either Sacramento or San Jose?
That last one would be a very specific life goal, but if it’s yours, are you ever in luck! According to his website, Jon Bon Jovi is looking to help up-and-coming bands live out their dreams on his upcoming “This House Is Not For Sale” tour, with a contest in which the prize is, yes, opening for Jon Bon Jovi.
On the site, aspiring rockers are invited to submit an audition video of themselves performing original music; a different winner from a different geographic region will be chosen for each of Bon Jovi’s 2017 tour dates. The contest, which is sponsored by Live Nation, does not specify whether or not John Francis Bongiovi Jr. himself will personally sort through the submissions to select said winner, but do note that videos will be judged on “ability to entertain and captivate viewer/audience through showmanship, stage presence and/or fan interaction, originality, and creativity.”
A closer reading of the contest’s official rules does reveal that bands must have five or fewer members, and winners will be allotted no more than 20 minutes for their big break of an opening performance. Also, here is a list of things your music and five minute-or-less audition video should absolutely not include, if you are going to be “opening for Bon Jovi” material.
- Obscenity
- Crude, vulgar or offensive pictures, depictions, images, language and/or symbols
- Gang signs or symbols
- Violence
- Explicit sexual activity
- Nudity
- Illegal drug or alcohol use
- Commercial products (e.g., clothing, toys food) and/or their trademarks, brands, logos or endorsements
- License plates, phone numbers, personal addresses (physical or email or otherwise)
- Website or web page links
- Derogatory characterizations of any ethnic, racial, sexual or religious groups, humiliation of other people (publicly or otherwise), any assault or threatening of others
- Trespass or the violation of other people’s rights or property
- Illegal (e.g., discriminatory, harassing) or inappropriate activity, behavior or conduct (e.g., inflicting emotional distress)
- Conduct or activities in violation of these Official Rules
- Any other content, display, materials and/or images that is or could be considered inappropriate, unsuitable or offensive, as determined by Promotion Entities, in their sole discretion
