Cy and David's Picks: The Dear Hunter, a Diminutive Dynamo, and a Week of Dance

Saturday, Sept. 26: The Dear Hunter.  Casey Crescenzo has written and recorded a symphony, had a series of concept EPs based on colors, and just released the fourth album in what’s going to be a six-album series — including a collaboration with the Bay Area’s Awesome Orchestra. Details here.

Sunday, Sept. 27: Kristin Chenoweth. The diminutive dynamo — and Emmy- and Tony-winner — performs songs from her latest album, Coming Home, at the Mountain Winery. Details here. 

Tuesday, Sept. 29: Tobias Jesso Jr. The gangly, painstakingly earnest singer-songwriter-pianist brings songs from his buzzy debut, Goons, to San Francisco. Details here. 

Thursday, Oct. 1 – Sunday, Oct. 4: Mariinsky Ballet and Orchestra’s ‘Cinderella.’ Commissioned for the Mariinsky in 2002, the production launched choreographer Alexei Ratmansky to international stardom, earning him a reputation for revitalizing classic ballet with urbane sophistication and modern storytelling. Thursday, Oct. 1 – Sunday, Oct. 4: Needles to Thread: Dancing Along These Lines in Continuum Alley. Jo Kreiter’s Flyaway Productions present a new piece inspired by immigrant women who work in the garment industry, drawing from a number of lenses: gymnastics, Chinese pole acrobatics, social justice and urban revitalization, feminism.
