Cy and David's Weekly Picks: Art + Soul, Amy Winehouse, and More

Saturday, Aug. 1: Rasputina. The brainchild of cellist Melina Creager, Rasputina is a rock band with classical chops in steampunk dress. Details here.

Saturday, Aug. 1 – Sunday, Aug. 2: Oakland Art + Soul. Two days of the best blues, jazz, hip-hop, dance, art, and food that Oakland has to offer, with the legendary Sheila E. as headliner. Remember, the TransBay tube is closed this weekend — try the ferry! Details here.

Aug. 5: Joshua Redman and James Farm. A collaboration among four stellar young musicians, including Berkeley High grad Joshua Redman, is a highlight of the Stanford Jazz Festival. Details here.

Thursday, Aug. 13 and Sunday, Aug. 16: UnderCover Presents ‘Amy Winehouse, the Singles.’ The Contemporary Jewish Museum’s in-depth retrospective about Amy Winehouse is on view through Nov. 5, but the best way to take it in is with musical accompaniment — especially local artists Karina Denike, Midtown Social and LoCura, curated by UnderCover Presents, performing Winehouse’s best-known tunes. Details here.

Now through Sept. 12: ‘Company.’ San Francisco Playhouse kicks back with Sondheim’s 1970 concept musical about dating and marriage. Details here.
