Well, friends: Ka-THUNKa THUNKa THUNKa bbbrrrRRRRRROOOOOO ROOOOOOOOO Ka-THUNK.
Hear that? Get used to it, because it’s the sound that’ll be reverberating along Valencia Street when the Elbo Room is demolished for condos. In San Francisco. In the year 2015.
Alas, none of this is a big surprise. Rumors swirled about the beloved club’s fate last fall, culminating in a November unveiling of fully fleshed-out plans for condos on the site of many a boozy, loud, distortion- and bass-heavy night in the Mission District. And though a flicker of hope loomed that the club’s lease may be renewed, with the condo project’s permit approval as the key variable, today owner Matt Shapiro delivered the official Valencia Street death knell:
Hey Everyone
There is finally news.
Dennis and Susan Ring had a meeting with the powers that be and they seem quite confident that their condo project will be able to move forward.
As a result, they have decided not to renew our lease which expires Nov. 1st, 2015.Yes, we are in shock.
What’s next?
We will be looking for a new space to continue what we are doing. With hopefully as little lapse as possible.
We own the liquor license, the business and all contents inside (except for pinball/pacman).
Hopefully we can find something soon.If you have any leads on a space for us, or wish to help… please email mattshapiro@mac.com
Thank You for your ongoing support
