Those squeamish about frank, funny discussion of lady parts should definitely not be at Rooster T. Feathers this week, where the very frank comedienne Nikki Glaser appears. In routines that we probably shouldn’t quote from here, Glaser removes all taboo from the bits below the belt, using self-deprecation, personal history and helpful tips for ladies and gents alike; those who’ve seen her never think of the word “fracking” in quite the same way.
But Glaser, a blue-eyed blonde often in heels, is not to be appraised merely as The Pretty Girl Who Works Blue. Unlike brasher, cruder comics—Lisa Lampanelli comes to mind—there is a genuine tact and intelligence in Glaser’s subject matter, and moreso in her setups and timing. An easy chattiness is Glaser’s ace in the hole, and it’s a refreshing style of delivery to those unmoved by the new experimentalism in comedy, be it in the form of Nick Offerman’s deadpan or Sarah Silverman’s awkward pauses. Surely, that poise comes from her long-running podcast You Had To Be There with fellow comic Sarah Schaefer, with whom she shares a natural rapport. Take Schaefer away, it’s like she never left: Glaser on stage talks to a club the same way she talks to her best friend.
