Alonzo King Lines Ballet’s spring season opens tonight with a world premiere and three older works (the program was a Do List selection this week). The KQED exclusive video presented here is from a 2013 performance of King’s “Ocean,” which is set to music by legendary jazz saxophonist Pharoah Sanders and Moroccan multi-instrumentalist El Hamideen. (Sanders supplies music for one of tonight’s pieces as well.) “Ocean,” originally created in 1994, is not on the bill this spring, but it does show off the physicality and visual flair we can expect the San Francisco-based Lines dancers to demonstrate at YBCA through the weekend.
